De Montfort women’s football team could secure first win of the season in Midland’s clash against Nottingham Trent

DMU Women’s football team could secure their first points for the season when playing big rivals Nottingham Trent University on Wednesday December 7, 2022, away at Gresham Sport Park.

It has been a tough start for DMU Women’s football team in the BUCS Aldi Women’s Midlands Tier 3 league. The girls have lost every single game this season. They are playing with a fairly new team, with a new coach and they are still getting used to playing with each other.

On Wednesday, DMU will travel up to Nottingham to play Trent in a Midland’s derby for the second time this season. The first game in November ended in a 6-2 defeat for DMU, despite DMU taking an early 2-1 lead. This return fixture is also the first away game for DMU this season.

DMU midfielder Anna Riley is hoping the magnitude of this big local Derby will spur the team on to victory.

“I am feeling a bit nervous due to the fact that we haven’t won a game yet,” she says.

“However, I feel confident in the team’s abilities to end this year with a win on Wednesday.”

Trent are currently leading the league with 13 points and haven’t lost a single game this season. Trent have only conceded three goals in five games and two of those goals were scored by DMU in their previous encounter.

DMU have had a hard time scoring this season and have struggled defensively, leaking goals in every match. The team always play a 4-2-3-1 formation and although the team has experimented by moving centre half, Jennie Habbits, into a more attacking midfield position, it has not stopped the team leaking goals.

They are currently at the bottom of the league with zero points and 16 goals scored against them. Trent are the only team DMU have been able to score more than one goal against.
